Rumors are swirling that Call of Duty: Mobile is set to get a third-person mode after the emergence of a trailer featuring gameplay from the POV.

The trailer features a choice of characters, weapon types, and playstyles, from bullets or blades to rushers or campers. At the end of the trailer, players are imported to "play your way!"

Featuring a third-person perspective (TPP) throughout - sans any visible HUD - and the suggestion to "play your way" has led some to theorize that a TPP could arrive, possibly with November's third anniversary season.

COD: Mobile currently features a TPP mode in the battle royale mode, but it is absent from the standard multiplayer modes. This new trailer features only gameplay from standard multiplayer modes, raising the question about its future implementation.

Could COD: Mobile Get A TPP Mode?

Call of Duty has always primarily been a first-person shooter, though has flirted with the POV in the past with 2009's Modern Warfare 2 and 2011's Modern Warfare 3.

Interestingly, the soon-to-be-released Modern Warfare II (not to be confused with the MW2 I just mentioned) will have a full-fledged third-person mode with its own playlist.

With its inclusion in MWII, could COD: Mobile follow suit and add a TPP mode?

The anniversary updates have always marked a point when major changes are made to the game, with the first anniversary adding the Alcatraz battle royale map, while the second anniversary added the Blackout battle royale map along with a raft of technical and graphical improvements.

The developers have also recently reiterated their commitment to the game and have promised to make it a greater "audio-visual feast," and a third-person mode could fit into that aim.

It will likely be a while until we know for sure. Season 9, which is centered on the return of the Zombies game mode, is not out until next week, with the third-anniversary celebrations not due to take place till November.
