In Clash of Clans, Town Halls have notoriously been defended by their very own in-built weapons, such as the Giga Tesla, Giga Inferno, and Inferno Artillery. These make them capable of attacking any troops that dare to get within proximity of these defenses or even engaging with the Town Hall themselves.

However, the way the heart of your Home Village defends against enemies changes with Town Hall 18. Instead of having a specialized non-moving weapon, a new defensive Troop, known as Guardians, will protect your Town Halls from threats.

These Guardians offer you a unique way to tailor the manner in which your Town Hall safeguards itself from the various threats that can fall upon your Home Village.

How Guardians Work in Clash of Clans

Guardians are defensive troops whose sole aim is to protect your Town Hall from enemies. They will replace the Town Hall's specialized weapon when you ascend to Level 18. These Guardians are mobile troops, meaning that they can move around and respond to any threats on the battlefield.

Only one Guardian can be selected to defend at any given time. The Guardian you have selected will stand on top of your Town Hall when your Home Village is being attacked. Once any enemies get within range of your Town Hall, the Guardian will jump down and engage with them.

Whether you're an attacker or a defender, it's important to take note of a few interactions that affect Guardians. For one, Guardians are defensive troops, so you cannot use them in your attacking armies.

Besides this, Guardians will not be treated in the same way as Heroes. This means they will not be targeted by Headhunters. On the other hand, they can receive buffs from Rage Spell Towers and Super Valkyries, and can be healed by allied Druids and Healers.

Spells, such as Earthquake and Poison, do not affect Guardians. They can, however, take damage from Lightning Spells.

As mentioned earlier, you can only start unlocking and utilizing Guardians when you reach Town Hall 18 in Clash of Clans. Guardians will start at Level 1 when you obtain them. Speaking of which, these are the Guardians you can unlock at the moment:

  • Longshot
  • Smasher

This variety of Guardians available enables you to customize how your Town Hall and, ultimately, your Home Village defends itself.

If the current meta revolves around overwhelming enemies with swarms, then the Longshot is your best choice. You can opt for the Smasher if you need a heavy-hitter who's willing to get up close and personal with your foes.
