Gearbox has delayed Borderlands 4's Nintendo Switch 2's release.

Borderlands 4's Nintendo Switch 2 release, which was initially planned to happen on October 3rd, has been moved to a later date and will align with the patch that brings the cross-save feature, though the exact date is still to be announced.
Greetings, Vault Hunters - We need to share that the release of Borderlands 4 on Nintendo Switch 2 is being delayed. We do not take this decision lightly, but are committed to ensuring we deliver the best possible experience to our fans, and the game needs additional development...

On Tuesday, September 23, 3:00 pm PT, Gearbox Entertainment took to X to announce that they are delaying Borderlands 4's Nintendo Switch 2 release in the wake of performance issues and other technical issues.
Moreover, following Nintendo's policy, every digital pre-order to date for the game will be cancelled, and players will be refunded starting Friday, September 26; however, there's also a manual option of initiating a refund right now, via the Nintendo eShop.
While Borderlands 4 is a great game in almost every aspect compared to its predecessors, yes, even Borderlands 2, there's no denying that the game is poorly optimised on all platforms.
PC players are struggling to run the game without crashes with a stable 60 FPS without overrelying on frame generation, while console players are busy asking for a FOV slider and a performance patch.
But that is not it; many game interactions are broken while some skills and equipment need a massive buff, which thankfully, is underway, as confirmed by Graeme Timmins, Creative Director at Gearbox.
We've seen the discourse about builds that use unintended interactions and/or the knife. We're not going to act on those immediately, instead, we're looking at our first round of buffs. Those will get addressed but we're going to start with underperforming gear/skills first.

For players who didn't know, Borderlands 4's performance on Nintendo Switch 2 was capped at 30 FPS. And the hands-on experience was limited to the Vault of Inceptus, which is an instanced area in the game, which offers 1.5x to 3x the FPS compared to the open world.
Still, many of the creators and journalists talked about the game's poor performance on Nintendo Switch 2 and seeing the recent response from the gaming community, Gearbox made a great decision in delaying and working on the game's performance and other technical issues.
