Clash Royale Just Made Unlocking Heroes Way Easier — Here’s What Changed

Clash Royale's Hero system has been reworked to offer players a more direct way to unlock their favorite Heroes.

Supercell has completely overhauled the Hero system in the latest Clash Royale update. The rework was launched on March 16.

Instead of collecting 200 Hero Fragments to unlock a random Hero under the previous system, players will now need to collect 200 Hero Coins to obtain a Hero of their choice in Clash Royale.

Players Now Unlock Heroes Using A New Currency

Players can unlock Heroes by heading to the 'Card Forms' section of the 'Collection' tab. Then, they can select the Hero of their choice to obtain them.

Hero Coins can be earned from the seasonal Pass Royale and certain limited-time events. A maximum of 200 Hero Coins can be held at any point in time, with overflow Hero Coins being converted into Gems in a 1:1 ratio. That means one extra Hero Coin will be turned into one Gem.

Players can view how many Hero Coins they currently have in their inventory by visiting the Magic Items tab.

Following this rework, players who have already unlocked Heroes will have up to three months after the update to claim 200 Hero Coins. Players who haven't unlocked it will receive 200 Hero Coins after they reach Arena 5.

To be clear, with the new system in Clash Royale, Hero Fragments have been replaced by Hero Coins. Additionally, Heroes can now be chosen instead of being unlocked at random. Players will still need to place a card in the Hero Slot or Wild Slot in their deck to activate a Hero during battle.
