The Fog will capture yet another victim and this time, it's not a player – it's the game itself. NetEase Games has announced its plans to sunset Dead by Daylight Mobile in the next few months. The decision was made amidst "ongoing shifts in NetEase Games' development and operational strategies."

The game will be leaving all app store shelves by January 16, 2025, before a total shutdown takes place on March 20. Players who have the app downloaded on their device will be able to jump into games and use their in-game currency and items until the game's servers formally close in March. However, all in-app purchases have been disabled since the announcement was made on December 18.

Dead by Daylight Mobile's road may be coming to an end, but the journey can continue in Dead by Daylight as a "Welcome Package" will be available for those making the move to the mainline title on PC or console. The package is a one-time compensation bundle with a selection of rewards that are handed out depending on the money spent by a player and the XP earned in Dead by Daylight Mobile. You can find a full breakdown of the rewards in the developer's closure statement.

This news may be a shock for many in the community, but certainly not one that was foreseen. Speculation of the game's shutdown began in late October this year when players noticed the doors being closed on the Content Creator program as well as key Q&A posts about the game's future being deleted from the official website.

Before the game's rumored state of limbo, Dead by Daylight Mobile very much stuck to its live-service model as it saw regular updates since its initial release in 2020. This includes introducing new killers, game modes, maps, and many other features to the game.

While the title may only be a mobile adaptation of the mainline multiplayer survival game, there's no denying that it found itself a unique home in the phones of many players from around the world who don't have access or can't afford a PC or console. Dead by Daylight Mobile will be missed by this group of gamers. But, on a more positive note, this game showed the heights that can be reached when a developer commits to making a mobile adaption the best it can be.
