When it comes to band names that instantly capture curiosity, Losers Of Today stands out. But, behind the name lies a deeper message that embodies the band’s core beliefs: resilience, perseverance, and the idea that defeat is never the end.

Formed in 2005 while they were still in high school, Losers Of Today began as an outlet for a group of music-loving teens inspired by the likes of blink-182, New Found Glory, and Rufio. The members consist of Roby Kazuya (Guitar, Vocals), Gita Armelia (Lead Vocal, Bass), Dwi Putera Apriansyah (Drums, Backing Vocals), and Rizqy Ramadhan (Guitar, Backing Vocals).

Over time, they found their identity by blending pop-punk energy with the melodies of Japanese punk rock. And, nearly two decades later, they’re still going strong.

From Classrooms to Concerts

The name Losers Of Today isn’t just a quirky band name — it’s a philosophy.

When this band was first formed, we wanted a name that symbolized relentless struggle and never giving up. We may be born to face defeat, but we are not born to surrender.

It’s a rather universal sentiment that everyone can relate to in their journey to discover their identity, much like Roby did when deciding to take music seriously at a young age.

The group has spent years refining their sound, and today, they’ve created one that’s undoubtedly unique.

“Like candies on Halloween night, where their sweetness brings joy amidst the surrounding horror theme. Imagine a band that plays punk rock with all its energy and cheerfulness, but blends it with chord progressions inspired by Japanese pop music, delivered with simple yet sweet-sounding vocals,” Roby explained when asked about how they’d describe their music to someone who’s never heard it before.

It’s a genre fusion that’s both nostalgic and fresh. The band wishes for their lyrics and music to become a soundtrack to the daily lives of their listeners and even provide positive inspiration in times of adversity.

Gamers at Heart

The band’s members may be musicians, but they’re gamers too.

“We really enjoy playing games together and we still regularly play to this day,” they said. “Some of us have even competed in international esports tournaments in the Asian region.”

While none of them have fully gone pro, Roby currently works as a professional shoutcaster for several titles in the esports scene.

One day, Losers of Today hopes for their music to be featured in a game, particularly their new song titled “Flyleaf.”

The track features a high-energy skate punk beat and emotionally driven vocal melodies. Imagine it as a perfect soundtrack for Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater game series, it would fit right in!

Growing Their Fanbase Through Esports

As briefly alluded to earlier, Losers Of Today are also no strangers to the world of esports. They were previously featured in the broadcast of the Snapdragon Pro Series (SPS) Mobile Challenge Finals in 2023.

“When one of our songs was selected to be played in the SPS Mobile Challenge Finals Mobile Legends: Bang Bang (MLBB) broadcast in 2023, we were very curious about how it would be received by a diverse audience who had never heard our music before. It turned out that the response from SPS viewers was very positive,” Roby described.

The band discovered how much exposure they (and other indie musicians) could attain by simply having their songs featured at an international event. After the event, they received positive feedback online and welcomed many new listeners.

It was definitely one of the moments that helped our band expand our reach, allowing us to connect with a wider audience and even open up opportunities to participate in other events afterward.

To them, having a song they’ve poured their heart and soul into fall into the hands of a wider audience is quite an achievement and can even build bridges for future opportunities.

In the present, Losers Of Today will be heading to SPS Mobile Masters 2025 for MLBB, taking place at Tennis Indoor Stadium Senayan in Jakarta from April 11 to 13.

And yes, their setlist is tailor-made for the occasion.

“We discussed together to determine which songs would best fit the theme and atmosphere,” they explained. “One of the songs we chose is a song about cherishing beautiful moments with friends. The lyrics of this song encourage listeners to believe that whatever we strive for will be easier to achieve when we do it together with friends.”

The band wants their energetic songs to be a companion for both the competing teams and the audience.

What’s Next for Losers Of Today?

The journey doesn’t stop here. Losers Of Today want to continue making inspiring songs, reaching new listeners, and performing on stages and in opportunities they’ve never had before.

“We hope to continue making music as a band for the rest of our lives,” they said. “May this band be an endless adventure for all of us.”

The group is already preparing for their next chapter, with a new EP and music video on the way. You can follow their journey on their official social media pages, such as Facebook and Instagram. Their music can also be streamed on Spotify and YouTube.
