In this guide, we break down how Buffies work in Brawl Stars, how to unlock them, and which Brawlers have access to them.
Introduced in the December update, Buffies are a collectible item in Brawl Stars that can greatly improve the effectiveness of your Brawlers in combat.
Buffies are equippable keychains that increase the stats, powers, and abilities of Brawlers. This includes buffing the Gadgets, Star Powers, and Hypercharges of any Brawler who has their respective Buffie equipped.
They add an interesting strategic component to Brawl Stars, as winning a match largely depends on your Brawler's loadout and how you operate them during battle. With Buffies, there's added room for experimentation, and the potential to get more out of your Brawler.
How Buffies Work in Brawl Stars
Each Brawler has four Buffies that they can collect: one for both Starr Powers, one for both Gadgets, one for their Hypercharge, and the final one is purely for aesthetic purposes. It's worth noting that all Buffies can be equipped at the same time.
Similar to Hypercharges, each Buffie can only be equipped by the Brawler they are assigned to. For example, a Buffie belonging to Colt can only be used by him and not by Emz. Once equipped, these Buffies will accompany you in the Arena and showcase unique idle animations.
You can begin using Buffies after reaching 1,000 Trophies on the Trophy Road.
How to Unlock Buffies
So, how do you unlock Buffies? It's simple. You can obtain them by using the Claw Machine at the Buffies section in the game. Each Claw Machine grab costs 1,000 Coins and 2,000 Power Points, and will reward you with a random Buffie. You'll be glad to know that your very first Buffie is free.
You can also buy the Buffie of your choosing with Gems by heading to its dedicated shop. However, the price varies depending on which one you're getting.
- Gadget Buffie: 149 Gems
- Starr Power Buffie: 179 Gems
- Hypercharge Buffie: 199 Gems
A Buffie will be permanently activated once you've unlocked it. You will not be able to unequip them.
As we mentioned earlier, there are four Brawler-specific Buffies. Three of them impact a Brawler's abilities, while the other is cosmetic. These are known as Bling Buffies. You can unlock them from the Bling Claw Machine only after you've collected all the other Brawler Buffies.
Which Brawlers Have Buffies?
Now that we've explained the fundamentals, let's take a look at which Brawlers have a Buffie. We must say that only a handful of them have one, as they're a recent addition. The Brawlers with a Buffie are as follows:
- Colt
- Emz
- Frank
- Mortis
- Shelly
- Spike
You can expect more Buffies to be added in future Brawl Stars updates. Supercell hasn't disclosed how many will be added in each cycle, but we anticipate that it will be similar to the Hypercharge schedule.
In it, about six Buffies will be introduced to the game every season. This staggered release schedule is more of a precaution, as it allows the meta to adjust to these additions, while also giving Supercell the chance to determine which Buffies are overpowered or underpowered.
