Oceanhorn

15. Oceanhorn

Oceanhorn feels like it was heavily inspired by classic Zelda games, but it still manages to carve out its own identity with its beautiful environments and polished exploration. The world is packed with puzzles, hidden treasures, and varied regions that encourage you to wander around instead of rushing through the storyline. The combat is straightforward but still satisfying, especially during larger boss fights.

Grant Theft Auto San Andreas

14. Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas

Even though it's been years since its release, Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas still feels incredible on mobile thanks to its huge map, detailed cities, and endless activities. Few action-adventure games offer the same sense of freedom, which lets you start chaotic police chases or cause destruction for fun. The graphics may not be crystal clear like other modern titles, but it preserves many of the elements that made the original legendary. There's a reason why Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas is one of the most influential open-world games ever released on any platform.

Slime Rancher

13. Slime Rancher

Slime Rancher was recently released on mobile, and it offers a colorful and relaxing open-world farming adventure where you can collect adorable slimes across vibrant alien landscapes. On top of that, you can explore the many different regions to discover rare slime species and resources, which makes the world feel surprisingly lively and rewarding. Its cheerful atmosphere and charming visuals make it one of the most cozy open-world experiences that you can easily get hooked on for a few hours at a time.

Terraria

12. Terraria

Terraria may look like a simple action-adventure game at first glance, but its open-world sandbox structure is unbelievably deep once you start diving into it. The game's open world is full of hidden caves, dangerous bosses, rare loot, and endless crafting possibilities. Exploration feels incredibly rewarding because there is always another biome, secret, or powerful item waiting to be discovered. It may have been released in 2011, but it remains one of the best examples of how much freedom and replay value an open-world game can offer.

ARK Ultimate Mobile Edition

11. ARK: Ultimate Mobile Edition

ARK: Ultimate Mobile Edition feels almost ridiculous when you realize it includes giant maps, dinosaur taming, base building, and multiplayer action all in one game. The game naturally scales back some features compared to PC and other consoles, but it still delivers a surprisingly authentic survival experience. There are certainly some things to be said about the game's optimization, especially on lower-end devices. Regardless, a game of its size and scale is quite the feat.

Mad Out 2

10. MadOut 2

MadOut 2 is chaotic in the best possible way. The sandbox RPG throws you into a huge city filled with cars, shootouts, ridiculous physics-driven moments, and other online players that constantly create unpredictable situations. It may not have the polish of bigger franchises, but the sheer freedom and scale make it entertaining anyway.

Car X Street

9. CarX Street

CarX Street is a modern open-world street racing game that, to us, embodies that nostalgic Need for Speed style of racing. Its world, known as Sunset City, is surprisingly detailed and enjoyable to cruise through, especially at night with traffic and neon lights everywhere. Grabbing your favorite car and driving it across highways, mountain roads, and city streets is a real vibe. The car tuning aspect is also quite realistic, and the game's visuals and driving physics are among the best in mobile racing right now.

Once Human

8. Once Human

Once Human features interesting survival mechanics mixed in with a creepy post-apocalyptic world filled with bizarre monsters and supernatural events. The game's environments are gigantic and yet super detailed. There are abandoned towns, big forests, and unforgiving swamps. Building bases, scavenging resources, and teaming up with other players gives the game an MMO feel that we enjoy quite a lot.

Subnautica

7. Subnautica

Subnautica on mobile delivers one of the most immersive survival open-world experiences ever brought to mobile. There's nothing like exploring a massive alien ocean filled with glowing reefs, deep-sea trenches, and terrifying underwater creatures that creates a constant sense of discovery and tension. The world becomes more mysterious and dangerous the more you explore it. Between base building, crafting, and surviving, the game does a great job of capturing the feeling of being stranded on an unknown planet.

Albion Online

6. Albion Online

Albion Online proves that a full sandbox MMORPG can actually work well on mobile. The game features a giant open world where gathering resources, crafting gear, and controlling territories are just as important as succeeding in combat. Since the economy is heavily shaped by players, the world feels genuinely alive and constantly changing. Its cross-platform design also helps the game feel closer to a PC or console MMO rather than a mobile game.

Sky Children of the Light

5. Sky: Children of the Light

Sky: Children of the Light delivers a peaceful and emotional open-world experience that focuses more on exploration and social interaction than combat. You can fly across beautiful kingdoms filled with clouds, ruins, and glowing spirits, which creates a sense of wonder that very few mobile games can match. The world feels alive thanks to its seamless online interactions, where you can meet other players and explore together without needing words. It's atmospheric, and the art direction with its world design is insanely memorable.

Wuthering Waves

4. Wuthering Waves

Wuthering Waves takes the open-world formula and fills it with extremely fast-paced combat and stylish movement mechanics. You can climb, wall-run, and grapple across the map, which makes exploration feel fluid instead of being slow. The world itself has a darker sci-fi fantasy vibe that gives it a unique identity compared to other mobile RPGs. We also think that the visuals are superb, as they are crisp and super flashy.

Where Winds Meet

3. Where Winds Meet

Where Winds Meet is an incredibly ambitious wuxia-inspired open-world RPG that blends martial arts combat with a massive fantasy setting. The cinematic sword-fighting techniques look like they're straight out of those old martial arts films. The freedom to roam the world, such as its sprawling landscapes and ancient towns, while uncovering secrets and mastering different combat techniques, gives the game a strong sense of adventure. All in all, it's one of the more recent releases that really took our breath away.

Genshin Impact

2. Genshin Impact

Few mobile games have made an impact quite like Genshin Impact. Its massive fantasy world is expansive, and feels alive with all of its hidden caves, puzzles, bosses, and beautiful regions. The action RPG constantly adds new areas with each passing update that somehow keep getting bigger and more detailed. It still feels unbelievable that a game this large and polished can run on a mobile phone at all.

Minecraft

1. Minecraft

Minecraft is a no-brainer for this list. It remains one of the greatest sandbox open-world games ever made, regardless of platform. The mobile version gives players access to massive procedurally generated worlds where they can build entire cities, survive dangerous nights, or simply wander endlessly across various biomes. What makes Minecraft impressive is not just the scale, but the freedom players have to shape the world however they want. Only a few mobile games offer this much creativity and replay value.

Mobile games used to be all about quick matches and simple mechanics, but the open-world genre has become shockingly ambitious over the years. We'd argue that some of them can rival console and PC experiences with their massive maps, deep exploration, and amazing visuals. That said, here are 15 of the most impressive open-world mobile games you can play right now.
