Supercell has announced a slew of changes that will impact Clash Royale in the upcoming November update.
Clash Royale's progression system has always been a topic of much-heated debate in the community. Some believe that it's impossible to compete with higher-ranked players if you're a free-to-play player, and others believe the requirements for card upgrades are too high. Whichever side of the debate you're on, we can all agree on one thing: the progression system is not perfect.
To Supercell's credit, they've taken steps in the past to rectify the problem. It started with 2021's update, which saw the introduction of Magic Items, such as Magic Coins and Books. The most game-changing addition came in 2023 with the arrival of Elite Wild Cards, cards that enabled you to upgrade cards to the highest level in Clash Royale.
All in all, they've been decent additions. But the community never seemed to fully believe these items were the solution. So, fast forward to the present day, Supercell has decided to try to fix the progression problem yet again by doing something radical—removing Elite Wild Cards, Magic Coins, and Books.

Clash Royale's Progression System Faces Yet Another Overhaul
The Finland-based developers acknowledged that 'the path to upgrading cards hasn’t always been straightforward.' Players were often split between saving resources for a new update and having an excessive amount of unused progression items.

To make the progression system easier, simpler, and more consistent, Elite Wild Cards will be removed. These were first seen as a passive way for players to upgrade their cards to the maximum level. However, the Elite Wild Card system was often confusing, especially for newer players, and less satisfying than directly collecting the cards needed.
Books and Magic Coins will also be taken off Clash Royale. Books were deemed to be unnecessary as their value didn't scale all too well between levels, especially at lower levels, thus making players less likely to use them. Supercell will be taking steps to improve the upgrading process, so Magic Coins will be unnecessary in the future, hence their removal.
What Happens to Elite Wild Cards, Books, And Magic Coins After the Update?
Elite Wild Cards, Books, and Magic Coins will be converted into various other currencies and cards when they are removed from Clash Royale upon the update's arrival on November 24th.
Elite Wild Cards will be automatically converted into Gems. Meanwhile, all the Books you own will be converted into an equivalent number of Wild Cards. Books of Books will turn into Gems. Magic Coins, on the other hand, will be converted into Gold. All conversion rates will be based on your current King Tower Level. The full details of the conversion rate can be found on this Supercell blogpost.
This massive change will pave the way for the rest of the new additions in the upcoming November update. The first big one is Level 16, a new milestone that will take cards to the next level. The upgrade costs for cards will also be adjusted for improved level progression. On top of all that, the Gem economy will receive a rework.
