Resident Evil Requiem Leakers “Deserve a Thousand Deaths” and They Should “Be Cursed to Never Play Games Again…,” Says Hideki Kamiya

The original director of Resident Evil 2, Hideki Kamiya, recently shared his take on the Resident Evil Requiem leakers, and it's either extreme or simply lost in translation.

Resident Evil Requiem is one of the most hyped releases of this year, which some players, as always, got access to ahead of its February 27 global release on the PC, PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch 2 platforms.

Some players got the physical edition of the game via "illegal means" around February 17th, and since then, there have been massive leaks, with full gameplay videos, being uploaded on platforms like YouTube, X, and others.

While Capcom is busy taking down this leak, they also shared an official statement on February 20th about the leaks, where they talked about how these videos and content shared ahead of the game's release are a copyright infringement and a direct offence to the players' sentiment around the world.

They also talked about how, with Resident Evil Requiem, they hope to deliver a "story that intertwines mystery and tension" and a "thrilling gameplay experience."

A day after the official statement, the former game director for the original Resident Evil 2, Hideki Kamiya, quoted the statement while adding his own take on the entire matter.

While his original response was in Japanese, here's the translated version:

I remember back with Bio2, the late-game plot twist got totally scooped by some photo weekly mag, right...For your own selfish satisfaction, you're trampling all over the feelings of users who were looking forward to it, and the feelings of the creators who poured their all into making it—a detestable act that destroys everyone's happiness and deserves a thousand deaths... May you be cursed to never play games again...

While we are assuming that he definitely didn't mean that leakers "deserve a thousand deaths..." and that they should "be cursed to never play games again...," we understand his frustration as developers pour years behind a game while players do the same, while waiting for it.

Leaks, especially for story-driven games like Resident Evil Requiem, are never good. Story, plot twists, secrets, and such aspects are something that every player deserves to experience firsthand.

On that note, we highly recommend either blacklisting certain keywords or simply avoiding socials and such platforms where leaks are being uploaded until you get to play Resident Evil Requiem.
