After years of speculation and fan requests, Subnautica is officially making its way to mobile devices. Developer Unknown Worlds Entertainment announced that the acclaimed underwater survival game will launch for iOS and Android on July 8, 2025.

The mobile version is being developed in partnership with indie game publisher Playdigious, known for bringing high-quality ports of PC and console games to mobile, such as Don't Starve Together and Skul: The Hero Slayer.

According to the official press release, the game has been thoroughly reworked to suit smaller screens, featuring a mobile-exclusive UI with touch controls, cloud save functionality, and controller support.

iOS players can also look forward to Game Center achievements, and the game is optimized to run smoothly on high-end devices like the iPhone 15 Pro.

However, fair warning to hopeful players, Subnautica can be slightly demanding in terms of hardware and software specifications. The provisional app size is a hefty 2.4 GB, and is only compatible with more modern operating systems. A full rundown of the supported devices can be found here.

The mobile edition will be priced at US$ 9.99, though players who pre-order the game on the App Store or pre-register on the Google Play Store will receive a 10% discount, bringing the launch price down to US$ 8.99.

Originally released in 2018, Subnautica has gained a massive cult-like following for its atmospheric gameplay and deep-sea exploration. Players crash-land on an alien ocean planet and must dive into the depths to gather resources, build bases, and survive the unknown creatures lurking below.
