COD: Warzone Mobile: Release Date, Leaks, Open Beta, More

Call of Duty: Warzone goes mobile with a brand new experience for smartphone and tablet gamers. Here is everything you need to know including the release date, leaks, a potential open beta, and much more.

Call of Duty: Warzone Mobile aims to bring the Warzone experience to smartphones and tablets.

Call of Duty: Warzone Mobile aka Project Aurora is official after months of rumors about its existence. The mobile title is expected to bring the classic Warzone experience and bring it to the small screen, a different tact than that seen with 2019's Call of Duty: Mobile which, while it had a battle royale mode, was primarily looking to ape the traditional small team-based game modes that the made the franchise popular.

With the cat out of the bag regarding its development, a closed alpha is already underway and leaks have revealed some interesting details about Warzone Mobile including that it may mark the return of the iconic Verdansk map to the franchise.

So, if you want to know more about Warzone Mobile, including its release date, all the latest gameplay information, and possible open beta registration, here is everything you need to know.

What Is Warzone Mobile's Release Date?

An official date for the release of Warzone Mobile has not yet been revealed. Back in March of this year, Activision Blizzard put a call out for developers to join their "award-winning team of mobile veterans" with primary development undertaken by Solid State Studios, Beenox, Digital Legends, and Demonware.

What we do know is that a closed alpha is currently underway with the first leaked footage appearing from that playtest which involves only those given direct invites.

While the leaked footage definitely looks playable with Verdansk, Rebirth Island, and a Gulag all shown, the graphics in other parts look less-than-polished and suggest quite a bit of work is still to go.

Based on previous mobile game development times, it is highly possible we will see an open beta period sometime in Q4 2022, with a full release in Q1 or Q2 of 2023.

Warzone Mobile - Leaks

Now, as mentioned previously, leaks from this closed alpha test have begun surfacing and they have got many in the community excited with it looking like Verdansk is set to return.

Leaked images that have been widely circulated show Verdansk, Rebirth Island, and the Gulag, while we can also see the inclusion of 150 player lobbies and armor plates, two features lacking from Call of Duty: Mobile's battle royale modes.

This could all be set to change though with the very nature of these tests designed to test performance and viability for mobile hardware. The game was an infamously monstrous size on PC and consoles and, while textures won't be the super HD versions seen on those versions, some downsizing will need to take place to make it possible to be downloaded and stored on mobile devices.

Warzone Mobile - Open Beta

While a potential Warzone Mobile open beta is highly likely there is currently no planned open beta period. At the moment, a closed alpha test is underway with only those given direct invites able to take part.

The developers had this to say in a recent blog post:

We’ll be opening things up and adding more players throughout the Closed Alpha phase and beyond as we achieve development milestones. Keep an eye out for news on this through these posts or through future communications on the official announcement of the game.

The team also suggested that what appears in the closed alpha is far from all that will be featured in the game at launch, saying "it's just a slice of what we have in store."
