Niantic has announced that they will be increasing the prices of in-game currencies in Pokémon GO.

These changes will be gradually introduced to Pokémon GO as early as October 5. Niantic reasoned that these price increases are due to changes in the App Store price tiers.

Understandably, this will be a huge blow for players who rely on purchasing these currencies to further their progress in the game. However, there should be no major negative impact on free-to-play players.

The countries and regions that will be affected by these prices increases are:

  • Countries/territories that use the Euro currency
  • Chile
  • Egypt
  • Japan
  • Malaysia
  • Pakistan
  • Poland
  • South Korea
  • Sweden
  • Vietnam

The exact price changes will vary across these countries, but Niantic will monitor them and their respective impact on the Pokémon GO community. Should any issues need to be resolved, they will act quickly.

Pokémon GO will not be the only game affected, other Niantic games such as Ingress and Pikmin Bloom will also see the prices of their respective in-game currencies increase.
