Resident Evil: Requiem's Game Director, Koshi Nakanishi, has shed some more light on Leon's marriage and his ring. Here's the full story.
One of the biggest mysteries that players are still trying to figure out after completing Resident Evil: Requiem is, no, not 'The Final Puzzle,' but the ring on Leon's ring finger.
A single ring has stirred up the entire fandom as it's now divided into different groups, with some shipping Leon with Ada because "If it ain't Wong, it's simply Wrong."
With others saying that it's Claire, as Chris wants to continue the strong Redfield bloodline, with some even saying that Leon is married to Chris.
But among Claire, Chris, and Ada, the most vocal and active group is the one rooting for Leon x Sherry, even though it's the weirdest ship, even weirder than Leon x Chris.
Whilst all of this was going on, Victoria Phillips Kennedy, a reporter from Eurogamer, reached out to Capcom to settle the debate.
And to her and everyone's surprise, she did get a reply from Capcom in this regard. And that too, from the Game Director, Koshi Nakanishi himself.
While he didn't give a straight and more direct answer, he did say:
The answer will become clear some day, but not just yet. What we wanted to convey in the final scene is simple: Leon now has a 'place to go home to', and we hope you can imagine the peaceful moments he spends there.
He further added how Leon's ring may hold significance beyond just marriage.
Leon is a man who says very little about the things that truly matter, but he would sacrifice himself without a second thought to save a life right in front of him. So what does his ring signify? Resolve? Or a vow?
He may never voice the answer himself, but for now, after finishing a long battle, he has a 'place to go home to'. Isn't that enough?
It is kind of funny to see the Game Director talk about how Leon has a 'place to go home to' while 57% of players got him killed by choosing the bad ending.
Anyways, what are your thoughts on this? Let us know in the comments.
