2015's action role-playing game by Monolith Soft, Xenoblade Chronicles X, is one of the most recent titles to make its way to Nintendo's Switch 2, in a new package, now called Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition, featuring 60 FPS, while offering "better visuals," new story content, quality-of-life changes, and more.

At the outset, it looks like a great paid offering, but when it comes to visual fidelity in particular, it is not, as the game suffers from bizarre image quality, which at first looks sharp, but when you start noticing, you cannot ignore it.

In the recent DF Direct Weekly 252 Episode, Richard, Alex, and John discussed the significant image quality issue the game faces and how it doesn't make sense, especially considering Switch 2 has better hardware and DLSS support, which should have helped Monolith achieve better results.

During the episode, John said, "Monolith has made some very strange decisions." It's like "what if you took AI upscaling from like 5 years ago and applied it full screen of the game all the time."

He further explained how a still shot looks crisp and sharp, but when you start to move your character, everything breaks down, which, now that we know about it, we cannot unsee.

The image quality becomes worse than what we saw with the original Xenoblade Chronicles X.

In fact, John even went ahead and said, “It’s Probably the Worst Switch 2 Edition Yet,” with the only benefit that comes out of Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition is that it runs at 60 FPS.

In fact, even Nintendo, who are not known for doing refunds for digital games, has started doing refunds for Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition upgrade and the game in general for players reaching out via the official Nintendo Support.
